Angel Flight Australia is a charity that co-ordinates non-emergency flights for financially and medically needy people. All flights are free and assist patients or compassionate carers travelling to or from medical facilities anywhere in Australia. Angel Flight services are entirely free.
Angel Flight is funded by private donations. They rely entirely on donations from individuals, clubs, companies large and small and deceased estates.
Donations are used to pay for:
- Fuel used in the conduct of Angel Flights
- Specially discounted commercial flights in the event of long haul missions, Capital City transfers where a commercial flight is a much more economical option, short notice missions, or when poor weather prevents light aircraft from flying
- The Angel Flight Support Centre that runs on a very small infrastructure, with six full time co-ordinators as paid staff
Angel Flight is an exceptional charity in that it does not have a fundraising department and only spends about 15% of revenue on administration overheads like rent and telephone. Eighty-five percent of revenue is spent on the actual co-ordination and delivery of its service.
The Houdini - Centenary Air Show is proud to be a supporter or Angel Flight with remaining proceeds from the air show being donated to the organization.
As part of the Houdini commemorations around Australia, a very special flight will take place. Ken Evers and Tim Pryse will fly around the world in an Australian designed and built GA 8 Airvan. This will be the first time an Australian commercially manufactured aircraft has flown around the world.
Ken and Tim are making the flight as a part of the Millions Against Malaria project, raising global awareness of the devastating effects of malaria. This flight is aiming to raise $2,000,000 to be used in fighting this ravaging disease.
On Saturday 20th March 2010, Ken and Tim will take off from Bendigo on the start of their ground breaking flight. The first leg will be to Melton Airfield for the Houdini - Centenary Air Show, where Ken and Tim will take off from Melton Airfield at 11am and make a flypast as the opening of the flying display, before continuing to Brisbane.
As part of the Houdini commemorations in the Shire of Melton, Ken and Tim will also make a fly past at a commemorative ceremony in Diggers Rest on 18th March 2010, the centenary of Houdini's historic flight.

John Fisher and Tiger Moth VH-GVA to attend Air Show
In 1996 John Fisher flew solo from London to Sydney in his Tiger Moth VH-GVA. On this marathon flight John set 10 General Aviation World Records in his aeroplane sub-class for speed over a recognized course. 9 of these records still stand today. John and his Tiger Moth have also completed many journeys throughout Australia and maps showing the travels are painted on the underside of the aircraft's wings.
Details of John's records in VH-GVA can be found at http://records.fai.org/general_aviation/aircraft.asp?id=814
John will be available to talk about his travels on the day and the Air Show organisers are delighted to have John bring his Tiger Moth for static display.
