Harry Houdini (1874-1926)
Harry Houdini was born Ehrich Weisz on 24th March 1874 in Budapest, Hungary. Migrating with his family to America in 1876, Houdini started his professional career in magic at the age of 17.
Houdini's interest in aeroplanes started in 1909, 6 years after the Wright brothers first flight. Houdini bought a Voisin biplane in 1909 for $5,000, and as he was to tour Australia as part of his magical theatrical tour in 1910, brought the aircraft to Australia with him at the request of the newly established Aerial League.

Two more successful flights were made that day, the longest covering 2 miles in 3 1/2 minutes at a height of 100 feet. The flights were witnessed by members of the Aerial League, the media, spectators and enthusiasts.
